Vitamin B12 is often introduced as the energy vitamin.

That description is not wrong, but it tells only part of the story.

Vitamin B12 contributes to normal energy metabolism and the reduction of tiredness and fatigue. It also contributes to normal functioning of the nervous system, normal psychological function and normal red blood cell formation.

Vitamin B12 is not a stimulant. It is part of the nutritional foundation the body needs to function normally.

Why is vitamin B12 about more than energy?

Vitamin B12 does not provide calories, and it does not create the immediate lift associated with caffeine.

Instead, it contributes to normal energy-yielding metabolism, the processes through which the body releases and uses energy from food.

B12 supports normal energy metabolism. It does not manufacture a quick lift.

Who may need to pay closer attention to B12?

Vitamin B12 is found naturally mainly in animal-derived foods, including fish, shellfish, meat, eggs and dairy products. It can also be obtained from fortified foods and supplements.

This makes B12 particularly relevant for people following a vegan diet and potentially relevant for vegetarians whose intake of eggs, dairy or fortified foods is limited.

But B12 status is not determined by diet alone.

Food-bound B12 must first be released from protein during digestion. It then binds to intrinsic factor, a protein produced in the stomach, before being absorbed in the final part of the small intestine.

Older adults may absorb less B12 from food because stomach-acid production can decline with age. People with certain gastrointestinal conditions, those who have undergone gastric or intestinal surgery and people using medicines that affect stomach acid may also need to pay closer attention.

Long-term use of metformin can affect vitamin B12 levels in some people.

When deficiency is suspected, appropriate testing and professional assessment matter.

Why does Health Royals use methylcobalamin?

Vitamin B12 is also known as cobalamin. Supplements can provide it in several forms, including cyanocobalamin, hydroxocobalamin, adenosylcobalamin and methylcobalamin.

Cyanocobalamin is a stable synthetic form that the body can convert into the intracellular forms it needs.

Methylcobalamin is one of the naturally occurring coenzyme forms of vitamin B12 used in human metabolism. It participates directly in the methionine synthase pathway, where vitamin B12 contributes to normal homocysteine metabolism.

The choice does not rest on claiming that every methylcobalamin ingredient is universally superior to every other form. It rests on something more specific: selecting a recognised coenzyme form from a controlled branded source, with close attention to purity, stability and ingredient identity.

The distinction is not simply methylcobalamin rather than cyanocobalamin. It is the combination of form, source, stability and production quality.

Why does the formula provide 10 micrograms?

Health Royals’ peak performance formula provides 10 µg of vitamin B12, equivalent to 400% of the Nutrient Reference Value.

The percentage may appear high, but oral vitamin B12 absorption is dose-dependent.

At lower doses, B12 is absorbed mainly through a pathway involving intrinsic factor. This pathway has limited capacity. As the oral amount rises, the percentage absorbed falls sharply, while the absolute amount absorbed increases far less dramatically.

A small additional proportion can also be absorbed passively, independently of intrinsic factor. This is why very high oral doses may have an important therapeutic use in people with diagnosed deficiency or impaired absorption.

That therapeutic logic is different from the purpose of a daily multi-nutrient formula.

For regular nutritional use, a much larger number on the label does not necessarily provide proportionally greater value. The 10 µg daily amount gives a clear nutritional contribution above the reference intake without turning the formula into an arbitrary megadose.

How vitamin B12 fits into the complete formula
